2018 Cannes Film Festival Diva’s

Well, now that the religious experience at the Met Gala 2018 has come to a close. Rihanna seemed to have won over the hearts of her fans in her impressive full-Papal ensemble.

However, it is now spring so the Cannes Film Festival season is upon us and it has an interesting history, plus it is certainly more of a global festival that celebrates the film industry.

The Cannes Film Festival has its origins in 1932 when Jean Zay, the French Minister of National Education, on the proposal of historian Philippe Erlanger and with the support of the British and Americans, set up an international cinematographic festival. The first festival was planned for 1939, Cannes was selected as the location for it, but the funding and organization were too slow and finally the beginning of World War II put an end to this plan.

On 20 September 1946, twenty-one countries presented their films at the First Cannes International Film Festival, which took place at the former Casino of Cannes. In 1947, amid serious problems of efficiency, the festival was held as the “Festival du film de Cannes”, where films from sixteen countries were presented. The festival was not held in 1948 and 1950 on account of budgetary problems. In 1949, the Palais des Festivals was expressly constructed for the occasion on the seafront promenade of La Croisette, although its inaugural roof, while still unfinished, blew off during a storm. In 1951, the festival was moved in the spring to avoid a direct competition with the Venice Festival which was held in autumn.

This year we witnessed some of the most beautiful dresses worn by actors who are making headway in the film industry. Deepika Padukone stole the show when she arrived in this fushia gown designed by Ashi Studio Couture.

Cannes is widely considered the most prestigious film festival in the world, mainly because of its exclusivity and long history of premiering some of the greatest films of all time. The festival has launched the careers of many prominent filmmakers, like Quentin Tarantino and Steven Soderbergh.

Cannes carefully cultivates its image by programming a limited number of films; by giving awards selected by juries that are stacked with well-known filmmakers, actors, and composers from around the world; and by maintaining the largest film market in the world.

We caught Amber Heard wearing a beautiful Valentino dress that had photographers going crazy. With it’s plunging neckline and fabulous skirt action, this dress definitely made a statement.
