Jackets have been my go to garment my entire life. They are a timeless piece that can be dressed up or down. You can just grab a jacket and wear it over a t-shirt with jeans and the look is complete. Stylish and chic with that hint of sophistication. Then again, add on some accessories like some jewellery or a silk scarf and you take it up a notch. Jackets are one of the easiest garments to accessorize but yet so many women forget to do that.
One way to remember to add some jewellery to your jacket ensemble, is to stand in front of a full length mirror (which every woman should have) and start adding layers of chains, pearls or both to the look and see how different your jacket looks. Try it also with scarves and see which look reflects your inner style the best.
Fashion Shows are a great resource of how to accessorize your wardrobe, as they do it over the top all for a sense of drama. However, when you watch a Fashion Show it gives you so many great ideas on how to be creative with a simple clothing piece like the jacket.
Just remember when choosing a jacket to ensure that it is fully lined. Also, jackets can be taken in from the bust line down to the hips, so when you try one on the first thing you look to is does it fit properly in the shoulders. That is the most important element in a well fitted jacket. Then ensure that the length is a good fit for your body type. The rule of thumb is to make sure that the inside of the jacket length hits the inside of your wrist or even better is to aline the hem length with your knuckles. Sleeve lengths are always an issue for shorter women, but those just get altered.
